Job Opening Summary

 

The incumbent will be responsible for supervising the UF Health histocompatibility laboratory. This lab serves the UF Health solid organ and hematopoietic stem transplantation programs as well as serving as the HLA typing laboratory for the LifeQuest organ procurement organization. Laboratory testing includes flow and CDC crossmatches, HLA antibody assays, STR analysis and HLA typing by SSP, SSOP and sequencing technologies.  Strong technical and communication skills are required. The technical coordinator will work closely with the laboratory medical director and regularly communicate with transplant coordinators and physicians. The position includes management of day to day operations including administrative and technical support, review of test results, problem resolution, financial management, etc.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Human resource management (hiring/firing, performance evaluations, etc.)
- Budget development (in conjunction with the Manager) and budget monitoring 
- Supervision of specimen collection requirements, accessioning, and preparation of specimens for analysis, testing and reporting
- Test development and new procedure implementation
- Performing analytical procedures when required 
- Quality Assurance functions including data collection, analysis and reporting
- Maintenance of laboratory accreditation including proficiency testing and inspection preparation.

Job Opening Qualifications

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor degree and at least five years of experience as a Medical Technologist is required. At least one year in a lead or supervisory position is preferred.
  • The candidate must fulfill overall qualifications for a general supervisor of an ASHI accredited histocompatibility laboratory with at least three years' experience in human histocompatibility or transplant immunology testing under the supervision of a qualified director or technical supervisor.
  • A Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS ABHI) certification is strongly recommended.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver"

NOTE:  A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Please indicate the appropriate operator designation on the Request for Personnel (RFP) form at the time a RFP is submitted to post the position.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Must possess a current license as a State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in the appropriate area or be eligible for a temporary license.  ASCP certification is strongly preferred. Temporary licensure must be permanent within one year of accepting the position; if not, the position is automatically forfeited.
