Job Opening Summary

 

For inpatient assignment, assists the attending physician in the care and management of patients on inpatient units within the hospital. This includes making patient rounds once or twice per month, contributing to the decisions for daily care, writing orders, interacting with consultants and facilitating with social work/case management and ordering and interpreting of therapeutic and diagnostic tests and procedures. Will make frequent bedside visits to assess the status of patients and direct care accordingly. Assist in and does minor wound care at patient bedside.

For emergency department assignment, or surgical services may be called for a consult on comprehensive surgical care of the patient. The incumbent will consult with the supervisory physician to determine the most appropriate care for patients.


For outpatient clinic assignment, independent and under the supervision of an attending physician, this position will provide diagnostic and therapeutic health care coverage for patients, which will include, but not be limited to, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, interpreting lab tests, diagnostic studies, prescribing medications and providing assistance to the patient regarding a plan of treatment and education. Other duties may include phone coverage and answering in basket messages.

Vascular APP responsibilities, but not limited to:

APPs assists in the care and daily management of 40+ patients on inpatient units and outpatient clinic in collaboration with the Attending Physicians.

-Daily documentation and plan of care on all inpatients which includes daily notes and orders in collaboration with the Attending Physician.

-Daily duties include reviewing labs, test results, making patient rounds, contributing to the decisions for daily care, writing orders, in-basket coverage, interacting with consultants, ordering and interpreting of diagnostic tests and procedures.

-See consults and ED patients: write consult note, perform physical, review of studies and order tests, place recommendations and plan of care at the direction of Attending Physician.

-Performs comprehensive and problem-focused History and Physical upon admission, reviews outside hospital data, provides plan of care, and places orders in collaboration of the Attending Physician to ensure goals of care are met.

-Work with the nurses and ancillary staff to provide plan of care

-Provide immediate management and medical care to stabilize patients in urgent or emergent situations and escalate level of care as needed with the assistance of Attending Physician.

-Performs minor surgical bedside procedures: wound debridement, VAC dressing placement and dressing changes

-Discharge planning: includes the coordination of post-operative care needs, generates discharge summaries, writes prescriptions, explains discharge instructions, confirms follow-up appointments, works with case managers, and social workers daily regarding disposition/discharge planning, peer to peer discussions with insurance for home care, rehab or any inpatient facilities.

-Makes frequent bedside rounds to assess the status of patients and direct care accordingly.

-Provides assistance and collaborate care for patients on other services which vascular has been involved.

-Attend monthly Quality Meetings, M&M and work with Department of Surgery on projects to improve patient education and outcomes with goal of decreasing length of stay, adverse events and improved patient satisfaction.

-Inpatient APPs will attend daily morning meeting to discuss plans for patient census

-Opportunity to join Vascular fellows and residents in weekly morning education conference.

- Occasional operating room case assistance if needed and desired by APP.

Salaried position with variable 40hr work week, M-F.

No Overnight, No Weekends, and No On-Call

*Extra shifts as needed to cover shortages

Job Opening Qualifications

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree in Nursing or accredited Physician Assistant program

Credentialing: Must meet requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable.

Additional Requirements

Adult Clinic/Primary Care --/-- PA-C or ARNP required.
Emergency Medicine --/-- PA-C or ARNP required. Emergency medicine experience preferred.

NOTE:  A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Current and clear license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Florida.  ACLS and BLS is required.
